I am very sorry to inform you that our final attempt at putting on a School Sports Day this year has had to be cancelled. This is because, with overnight rain and persisting misty conditions, the grass on the school field remains wet and therefore dangerous for children to run on.
As on previous occasions, we have tried very hard to inform families by text all morning, but unfortunately all our IT systems have chosen today to fail to be working. I apologise for the added inconvenience that this has caused.
The decision not to go ahead with this event has not been taken lightly and reflects solely the risks posed by the surface conditions to children's safety. I fully appreciate that this decision is disappointing for families who have carved out time from busy working lives to attend and for children who have been looking forward to this event. With all the preparations that go into organising a whole school event like this, I assure you it is equally disappointing for school staff. However, I'm sure you'll agree that our pupils' safety must come first.
This is the first time in many years that we have not managed to put on Sports Day at St. Agnes and we will be looking at ways to improve the chances of this important event in the school calendar going ahead in the future.
